In preparation for the launch of Google Apps at the University of Minnesota, the Office of Information Technology is providing several training options to help users with the transition. Whether you want to investigate how Google Apps might assist you in collaborating with your colleagues or just have a few questions about transitioning to Google mail - we have a training option for you.
This 1.5-hour seminar provides a tour of the applications available with Google Apps for the University of Minnesota. This overview will demonstrate how to collaborate on a project with different people, and how the different applications are designed to facilitate collaboration. The overview will also identify some of the issues users may encounter with the transition to Google Apps, including efficiency tips and conceptual differences with other commonly-used software.

An online, self-paced learning opportunity is available at the Google Apps Collaborative Learning Space.
This 20-minute informal session will include a brief overview of transitioning to Gmail, with the focus on answering participant questions. Topics include:
This session is delivered at the Tech Stop in 101 Coffman Memorial Union. Registration at the UTTC Web site is required.
These 30-minute appointments provide an opportunity to meet with an instructor or learn specific skills and concepts for a project such as sharing documents with a group or collecting data with a form. Participants are encouraged to bring their project files as well as their laptop (if available).

University of Minnesota faculty, teaching staff, and technical coordinators are invited to attend training on TurningPoint, a student response system, offered by Turning Technologies and hosted by the Office of Information Technology (OIT). The training is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30, in 210 Walter Library, and will focus on setup and use of TurningPoint in the classroom. A basic and an advanced session are planned.
TurningPoint transforms a standard PowerPoint presentation into an interactive learning system that engages students in active participation. With TurningPoint technology, you can display questions, surveys, opinion polls, and games that allow every student in the class to select a response via wireless ("clickers") or ResponseWare, and transmit the data immediately to the presentation. The training is offered at no charge but registration is required.
TurningPoint 2008: Basics from 8:30 - 11:00 a.m.
This 2.5-hour course covers the basics skills needed to setup and use TurningPoint 2008. Topics include choosing hardware and software settings, creating basics presentations, inserting objects, tracking participants, running presentations, and generating basic reports.

TurningPoint 2008: Advanced from 2:00 - 3:30 p.m.
This 1.5-hour course covers methods to enhance your presentation and take advantage of the advanced features of TurningPoint 2008. Topics include using pictures instead of textual answers, creating and running competitions, using a demographic slide to show how specific groups respond, using priority ranking to allow weighted responses to a question, comparing the responses of several slides, managing sessions, and generating advanced reports. Prerequisites: Knowledge equivalent to: TurningPoint 2008: Basics.

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is pleased to announce that our University Technology Training Center (UTTC) courses, formerly offered for a fee, will now be available to current faculty, staff, and students at no charge.
Offering technology training is a part of OIT's effort to further the University's goal to become one of the top three research universities in the world. Professional development opportunities such as this can help to build skills and create efficiencies affecting academic and professional success and advancement for the individual and the University community as whole.

Please note: UTTC's resources are limited. You are encouraged to register only for courses you are committed to attending. If there is a change in your schedule, a cancellation notice is required 48 hours prior to the start of the course so that the seat may be filled with someone on the waiting list.
In addition, departments, colleges, and other campus organizations may arrange custom training for current University of Minnesota students, faculty, and staff at no charge.
