I'm not affiliated with the U. Can I take a class?
No, if you are not a current student, staff or faculty member of the University of Minnesota you cannot take one of our courses. We encourage non-University individuals to look for reasonably priced training opportunities in their local areas such as community education programs. In addition, we often refer people to the Science Museum of Minnesota's computer training program or the online training library at lynda.com.
What is the deadline for registration?
The deadline to register for a course is two full working days before the first day of class.
- A separate registration is needed for each person who wishes to enroll.
- Courses are filled in the order registrations are received.
- Register early; many courses fill quickly.
- If a class is full you will be placed on the waiting list.
Are there any prerequisites?
Some courses have prerequisites. If you are not sure whether you are ready for a particular course, please call and ask to talk to the instructor before you register.
Please note: Instructors will not slow down to accommodate students who have not taken the stated prerequisites or mastered the equivalent skills.
Can someone else register for me?
No. You must register using your own Internet ID (X500). This allows us to keep an accurate record of your training.
- Don't use your Internet ID to enroll someone else for a course; if you need assistance enrolling someone for a course, please call 612-625-1300.
Can I get on a waiting list?
If a course is full, you will be placed on a waiting list.
- If a course opening occurs, you will be notified as soon as possible.
- Unless notified, please do not show up for a class for which you are waitlisted.
- If enough people are wait-listed, we may open another section for that course.
If I'm on the waitlist, can I just show up?
No, unless you are notified of an opening, please do not show up for a class for which you are waitlisted.
What if I need to cancel (can't attend)?
If you can't attend a course, for whatever reason, please let us know as soon as possible. We need to hear from you so we can contact the people on our waiting lists.
What if we have to cancel a course?
We will let you know as soon as possible. We will only cancel a course:
- If a class doesn't have enough participants, or
- If the instructor is unable to attend due to an emergency or illness.
How do I register online?
- From the course description page, click the appropriate Enroll in [Section] button.
- Login with your Internet ID and password.
- Complete the enrollment form and click Submit.
- You will receive a confirmation e-mail when you submit your registration online. Please retain this notice as proof of your registration.
How do I register by fax?
- Print a registration form (requires Acrobat Reader).
- Fax your completed registration form to 612-625-6817.
- You will receive a confirmation e-mail when we have processed your registration. Please retain this notice as proof of your registration.
How do I register by mail?
