Excel 2007: Managing and Analyzing Data

This 7-hour course explores some of the many data tools available in Excel. Participants will learn to use Excel's data management tools to efficiently work with large data sets. Participants will then focus on using Excel's data analysis tools, including the pivot table feature which allows users to extract summary information from a database and further analyze its contents.

Microsoft e-learning courses on Office applications are also available at no charge to University of Minnesota faculty, staff, and students.

Topics include:

  • creating and modifying databases in Excel
  • sorting data
  • creating lookup functions to automate data entry
  • using filters to selectively view data
  • working with database functions
  • importing external data
  • creating, revising, and updating pivot tables
  • creating pivot chart reports from pivot table data

Prerequisites

Participants new to Office 2007 are strongly encouraged to view the 20-minute Microsoft Office 2007 Overview before taking this course. Knowledge equivalent to

This course is taught on the Windows platform using Excel 2007.

Fees
