Collaborating with Web-Based Tools

This 3.5-hour hands-on interactive class will explore some of the digital tools currently available for sharing, collaborating, and networking and provide guidance for choosing effective tools for your situation. We will present several examples of how these applications may be used in real situations at the University. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience some of these tools first-hand and discuss pros and cons of various collaborative tools.

Topics include:

  • understanding various digital tools such as wikis, blogs, social networks, social bookmarking, web-based applications, and other Web 2.0 resources
  • exploring differences between centrally supported University applications and open source or free-to-use applications
  • discussing privacy issues surrounding the use of online tools
  • controlling access to your information

Prerequisites

Familiarity with using a web browser.

Platform

This course is taught on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms using a web browser to access various web-based tools.

Fees

No fee. Registration required.
