Social Networking: Professional and Personal Connections on the Web

This 3-hour course is an introduction to online social networks such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. Participants will explore how to separate their professional and personal Web presence and discuss issues of privacy and ownership.

Topics include:

  • understanding the primary uses of different social networks
  • understanding web presence
  • creating profiles and customizing settings
  • creating community
  • adjusting privacy settings

Prerequisites

None.

Platform

This course is taught on both the Macintosh and Windows platforms using a Web browser to access various Web-based social networking tools.

Fees

No fee. Registration required.

Registration in this course is limited to University of Minnesota students, staff, and faculty.
